Homemade Hamburger Helper

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 sweet yellow onion, diced
  • 8 oz elbow pasta
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet with a lid, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it's browned. Set aside the cooked beef, keeping 2 tablespoons of grease in the pan.
  • Sauté the onion until it's soft, approximately 5 minutes. Add the garlic during the last 30 seconds.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, then gradually add the beef broth, bringing the mixture to a boil.
  • Blend in the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, paprika, garlic powder, and pasta. Stir to combine. Cover with the lid and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pasta is done, stirring occasionally.
  • Introduce the cream and cheese, stirring until the cheese is completely melted. Reincorporate the cooked ground beef, heat for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, and serve promptly!
