Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and set a pot of water to boil for the pasta. Sauté the burger and onions in a skillet over medium-high heat, seasoning with black pepper. Cook until beef browns and onions turn translucent.
Add minced garlic in the last minute. Drain excess grease, if needed.
As the pasta water boils, cook the macaroni until almost al dente, then drain. It will finish cooking in the oven.
Combine tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and herbs with the ground beef.
Optionally, add cheddar cheese and parsley. Mix until cheese melts. Stir in the cooked macaroni. Transfer to an oiled 2-quart casserole dish.
Top with Mozzarella cheese and bake for 30 minutes.
Allow it to rest for 5 minutes before savoring your creation!
