Cheesy Baked Goulash

Ingredients
 

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 15 oz canned tomato sauce
  • 15 oz can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni pasta
  • 2/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and set a pot of water to boil for the pasta. Sauté the burger and onions in a skillet over medium-high heat, seasoning with black pepper. Cook until beef browns and onions turn translucent.
  • Add minced garlic in the last minute. Drain excess grease, if needed.
  • As the pasta water boils, cook the macaroni until almost al dente, then drain. It will finish cooking in the oven.
  • Combine tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and herbs with the ground beef.
  • Optionally, add cheddar cheese and parsley. Mix until cheese melts. Stir in the cooked macaroni. Transfer to an oiled 2-quart casserole dish.
  • Top with Mozzarella cheese and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Allow it to rest for 5 minutes before savoring your creation!
